Choosing the right lenses

There are two main types of lens to choose from:

Soft lenses - these are the most popular because they are easy to adapt to and more comfortable to wear. Soft lenses are made of a material containing water, so they are very gentle on your eyes. However they do need to be replaced quite frequently.

Gas permeable lenses - these are usually recommended if your eyes require extra oxygen (something which varies from person to person) or you have a high degree of astigmatism (an irregular shaped eye). Gas permeable lenses take a little longer to get used to, but they also last longer than soft lenses.

Unless you wear single use (daily) disposables, cleaning and disinfecting contact lenses is essential to ensure good vision and healthy eyes. There are now many different lens care solutions available and the best one for you will depend on your lens type, the replacement frequency and your eyes themselves. Disposable lenses - these are now the most popular form of soft lenses and are replaced at monthly intervals. Used in conjunction with lens care solutions, they enable you to wear clean and comfortable lenses at an affordable price.
