Contact Lenses

Have you ever thought about contact lenses?

Phoropter

There's never been a better time to wear contact lenses.

Thanks to new designs and materials, they're very comfortable and affordable. These days contact lenses usually cost no more than a pair of glasses and you'll soon forget you're wearing them.
Contact lenses give you the freedom to see, and be seen, without spectacles. They offer you excellent all round vision and don't hide your eyes like glasses sometimes do. In fact many people feel they look more natural wearing contact lenses. What's more, they don't slide down your nose, mist up or get in the way when you play sports. And with the latest disposable lenses, they're even more convenient for today's busy life styles.
If you would like to enjoy the freedom of modern contact lenses, please call us for an appointment. We will assess your suitability, explain the different options available and offer you a professional contact lens service that gives you clear and comfortable vision.

Choosing the right lenses

One of the main advantages of modern contact lenses is the wide choice available. Although not everyone is able to wear them, there's likely to be a design that's suitable for your eyes, lifestyle and pocket.

Some lenses have a special filter to block out potentially harmful UV light, while others are designed work as bifocals. Then there are coloured lenses that can change the appearance of your eyes in an instant-probably the ultimate fashion accessory!

As independent opticians we offer a wide range of contact lenses and can provide you with the most suitable kind to your needs.

There are two main types of lens to choose from:

Soft lenses - these are the most popular because they are easy to adapt to and more comfortable to wear. Soft lenses are made of a material containing water, so they are very gentle on your eyes. However they do need to be replaced quite frequently.

Gas permeable lenses - these are usually recommended if your eyes require extra oxygen (something which varies from person to person) or you have a high degree of astigmatism (an irregular shaped eye). Gas permeable lenses take a little longer to get used to, but they also last longer than soft lenses.

Looking after your lenses

Unless you wear single use (daily) disposables, cleaning and disinfecting contact lenses is essential to ensure good vision and healthy eyes. There are now many different lens care solutions available and the best one for you will depend on your lens type, the replacement frequency and your eyes themselves. Our practice will give your all the advice you need on looking after your lenses and provide you with the most suitable solutions.

Replacing your lenses

Regular lens replacement is necessary to maintain good vision, healthy eyes and comfortable wear. How often this happens depends on a combination of factors, particularly the lens material and your eyes. That's why it is important to visit our practice for regular check-ups and replace your lenses at the recommended time.

The introduction of disposable lenses in recent years has made frequent replacement easier and more affordable.

Daily disposables (Single Use) - designed to be worn once then thrown away, these are ideal for people who like to wear soft lenses occasionally (e.g. for sports) or regular lens wearers who do not want to use lens care solutions each day.

Disposable lenses - these are now the most popular form of soft lenses and are replaced at monthly intervals. Used in conjunction with lens care solutions, they enable you to wear clean and comfortable lenses at an affordable price.
